So we’ve created a learning center, located on Hillside Avenue and 182nd Street, where individuals can come to learn the techniques of acting, singing and dancing. Types of\nDrama<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symbol of drama – the laughing and weeping masks – represent\nthe two main types of drama, comedy and\ntragedy.<\/strong> Within those categories lie the many forms of drama that entertain\npeople today.  In modern theater, the\nlines between these types of drama are often quite blurred, with elements of\ncomedy, drama and tragedy residing in the same play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

COMEDY<\/strong>: When we talk about comedy, we usually refer to plays that are\nlight in tone, and that typically have happy endings.  The\nintent of a comedic play is to make the audience laugh<\/em><\/strong>. In modern\ntheater, there are many different styles of comedy, ranging from realistic\nstories, where the humor is derived from real-life situations, to outrageous\nslapstick humor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TRAGEDY<\/strong>: Tragedy is one of the oldest forms of\ndrama; however, its meaning has changed since the earliest days of staged\nplays. In ancient times, a tragedy was often an historical drama featuring the\ndownfall of a great man. In modern theater, the definition is a bit looser.\nTragedy usually involves serious subject matter and the death of one or more\nmain characters. These plays rarely have a happy ending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FARCE<\/strong>: Farce is a sub-category of comedy, characterized by greatly\nexaggerated characters and situations. Characters tend to be one-dimensional\nand often follow stereotypical behavior. Farces typically involve mistaken\nidentities, lots of physical comedy and outrageous plot twists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MELODRAMA<\/strong>: Melodrama is another type of exaggerated\ndrama. As in farce, the characters tend to be simplified and one-dimensional.\nThe formulaic storyline of the classic melodrama typically involves a villain a\nheroine, and a hero who must rescue the heroine from the villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MUSICAL<\/strong>: In musical theater, the story is told not\nonly through dialogue and acting but also through music and dance. Musicals are\noften comedic, although many do involve serious subject matter. Most involve a\nlarge cast and lavish sets and costumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PANTOMIME:<\/strong> In pantomime, the drama is executed without words, with action, usually through narration. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
